My Florida Hikes

Sharing the best of Florida hiking

I am looking for other troops and suggestion(s) for doing a 50 mile hike OR canoe in florida.

The basic rules are no more than 10 miles a day and a minimum of 10 hours of trail / park service for each boy while at the park.  Planning this for either Very early August (1st week probably) or Spring Break 2011 around April 2nd to 9th.

Any suggestions would be helpful for most of the hikes I have found are less than 50 miles.  Thinking of doing an extended Suwannee River one???

Thanks

Tom Tom (lee County Florida troop 4)

Tom, with you based in Cape Coral, here's my closest suggestion for you:

The loop trail at Myakka River State Park is nearly 40 miles and has several excellent campsites along it. Add in the linear connector to T. Mabry Carlton Preserve outside Venice, and you'd have a bit more than 50 miles ... I think the connector is 13 or 17 miles long. I haven't hiked that one yet, just discovered it last spring. They have info about it at Carlton Preserve, and the folks at Myakka River State Park should be able to tell you if you can walk from Carlton to Myakka, do the best part of the Myakka Hiking Trail Loop, and walk back to Carlton.
