My Florida Hikes

Sharing the best of Florida hiking

I had the crazy idea a few weeks back to thru hike the ocean to lake section of the Florida Trail over Thanksgiving this year. After speaking with folks at the FTA I spoke with representatives at several wildlife management areas and natural areas. I am very happy to say I have worked out all the details (permits, etc.). My wife, Misti, and I are planning to start the hike the morning of Wednesday, November 25, 2009 and Complete the hike that Saturday or Sunday. We plan to average 15-18 miles per day. We plan to make a video of our adventure.

We plan to park our car at the Atlantic ocean. If anyone is able to drive us from our car to the lake to begin the hike please let me know. Also, if anyone is interested in joining us please let me know.

I would love to join you both. The only thing that is stoping me is that I would just be getting back from my 9 day AT hike. My wife mite make me live out of my pack if I were to ask (jk :) ). If I were able to I could give you a ride, not to sure if you guys would like to pile up in my truck cab. That is the only bad thing about having a regular cab truck no extra seating, well there is butt real tight.

If you were to park at DuPuis, I'd be able to drive you from the ocean back to your car on Sat or Sun.

We will be starting our hike on Wednesday morning. Our friend Tom has very kindly agreed to shuttle us to Port Mayaka where we will begin. I have talked to many land managers and Florida Trail staff the past few months to plan our hike. We plan to arrive at the Atlantic in Hobe Sound on Saturday evening or Sunday morning. We will be documenting the entire trip with pictures and video. I will post a video of our trip after we are complete. I think this video will be of great help to future hikers as very little information about the details of this trail are available. See you on the trail!

Thanksgiving is the biggest hunting weekend of the year in Corbett. But it is a beautiful trail.

I am meeting up with Chris on Friday around the Hungryland Slough NA and hiking with them that day. It should be fun!

I talked to them last night and they got caught in a huge rain storm on their first day. That sucks!
I will be joining them Friday and bringing them some cold dranks and maybe some dry socks.
Please email me if you want to join us Friday for a nice hike. downtownwpb@hotmail.com
I am going to day hike with them, not staying the night out there. It's a neat area thru the Hungryland Slough and Loxahatchee Slough area.

I caught up with them and we hiked about 14 miles thru the Hungryland Slough and Loxahatchee slough area. We saw a ton of wildlife and Chris got some good videos of their trip. I can wait to see it when they edit it. They should be done with the Ocean to lake trail today. They did the trail from the Lake to the Ocean.
