Here's a link to the map of the Everglades in Dade and Broward, north of Everglades national park. The levee system is pretty extensive. Yes, you are right; it is not very interesting hiking compared to Everglades National Park or Big Cypress, but its what we have in Broward to hike.

Well , I will be hiking with my dog sometime this weekend also. I won't have a lot of time to hike this weekend so I'll just hit the levees in Broward county Everglades off US 27 for a few hours..

Hi guys,

I am going to hike the Arbuckle Tract near Frostproof. I plan to begin on the northern end of the trail and travel counter clockwise. It is about 19 miles. I will be solo unless anyone wants to join in. I will go out to check it out this week someday so I can begin Friday night after I get off work.

Shannan, just thought I'd warn you the bridge in the northwest portion of that loop is out indefinitely, I had some communication with the FT people in charge of that area as I am planning to visit at some point myself. I have no idea of the creek is easily fordable otherwise.

This site has some info on the tract if you haven't seen it yet: http://www.outintheboonies.com/Arbuckle_Tract/

Good to know, I was planning to start in the Northwest Friday night and camp at Grave Island the first night. I might not now, or maybe I will and start a good fire to warm up afterwards. I plan to do this loop quite often because it is 10 min from the house and my girls like it out there. With them I can only do sections at a time, but this weekend is solo and I wont let a little bridge being out stop me from the loop, just gonna figure out when I want to cross it. The creek is about 2 or 3 feet deep so crossing may be swim shorts and holding my pack above my head. I will report back with pics Sunday afternoon.

thanks again and let me know when you are going to be out there and maybe we can meet up.

About 9 AM? Remember I am not going on a long trek, because I'll have my daughter, so I'll be out there for just for a few hours. She likes hiking, but she'll only be 7 in June, so I can't go too far. There's the big blue loop, but then there are some smaller loops too.
