My boys (13 & 10) and I have started our Segment hike of the FT with a goal to complete the entire trail within 2-3 year and hopefully be the youngest ever to complete the entire trail. This is their 4th year backpacking with trips all over FL, GA, TN, & NC with experience along the FT as well as the AT.
I’m keeping a journal of their adventures on TrailJounals.com if you are interested in their progress. I’m also posting several photos & videos along the way of the various segments so future hikers can get an idea of the terrain and water sources.
Anyway, wish the boys (& I) luck along the way, they already have 24 miles down with another 40 coming up in the next couple of weeks. If you wish to follow them along you can find their journal at: www.trailjournals.com/Umbyone

I just added a discussion above for the 7 mile Croom River Hike. This hike is actually a piece of the Florida Trail thru hike if you are taking the Western Corridor. Bound by two nice campgrounds, Hog Island and River Junction, this hike can easily be enjoyed as an overnighter or a long day hike. Below is the slideshow.

Just added a discussion for the Silver Lake Loop Connector Trail. This 4 mile loop trail connects the Silver Lake Recreation Area with the Iron Bridge and Croom River Trail. It also provides access to the Croom A, B, and C loop trails that are maintained by the Florida Trail. Below is the slideshow.

Hi Barbara...The most accessible segment for us is Gold Head and honestly, we've only tinkered with it for a few miles. The FT is intriguing and we'll definitely be seeing more of it, so, when time allows, we may be able to report on some of the 'open' stretches out toward the panhandle. (Didn't realize you were admin for this group...cool!)

Great Mike, thanks for joining us. We are looking forward to hearing about thier adventures! I have a hold on putting my hikes from the Withlacoochee SF in here until Sandy finishes the new data base. This group is going to be set up little different due to the nature and size of the Trail.

This is perfect, thanks Barbara for thinking of this. My boys (13 & 10) are going to start segement hiking the FT this Oct from North to South. We hope to complete the entire trail in about 2-3 years. This will be a great help in our planning.
