For those of you interested in photographing wildlife.....
While driving into work yesterday, I stopped to speak to a man that had a scope and camera set up on tripods on the side of 49th Street in St.Petersburg. His name was Joe and happens to be an Eagle Watch volunteer for the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey.
He mentioned that there will be a meeting Monday, March 1st at the Moccosin Lake Nature Center, 7:30 PM. The topic of discussion is the Eagles Nests in Pinellas County and there will be a slide show presentation from a photographer that has been photographing the eagle sites in the area.

Hi Derek most of Florida is my answer....some suggestions would be Merritt Island WMA a great Winter-NOW-migratory destination,Prairie Lakes, which I think has the most nesting pairs of Bald Eagles in lower 48 and big gators. Lucy mentioned the Alligator farm in April for the wading birds;egrets,ibis,spoonbills,herons,storks...the Jax zoo is best place to photograph Wood Storks at both places the birds are just above the boardwalk. Lake Woodruff near Deland has a variety of Florida natives also. Just a few ideas but if you can find a local spot were you live you can just grab your gear and go shoot. Have fun and post more pix please yours are great. DS

This may sound like heresy because it is an urban suggestion for Derek and not a trek in the wilderness - the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine has an outdoor alligator pond area surrounded by trees, very old, very tall trees. This is a prime nesting area for wading birds, they come here every year - go there doing the nesting season and get great pictures

I enjoy wildlife photography and scenery. I hike Kissimmee down to Jonathan Dickenson State Park, and everywhere in between. If anybody knows of some great opportunities for wildlife photography elsewhere, please let me know. Thanks

Never profess to be a "good" photographer, but I LOVE documenting nature outtings and creating slide shows to share with those who attended. GREAT MEMORIES!

I use LightRoom to process images, and for the web I generally batch constrain the compression to 600 pixels (wide or tall) @ 72 dpi. They look great, load fast, and fit well into the typical display that a web page provides

How much should we compress images before uploading?
