My Florida Hikes

Sharing the best of Florida hiking

Juniper is always my favorite kayak run. A 7 mile slow paddle through the Juniper Wilderness always sets my heart at a slower pace.

Except when....it has rained. The water rises and makes paddleing this usual tranquil run a little more challenging. I love kayaking this run anytime, but after a rain is my favorite time. It picks up speed and makes dodging the overhanging trees quite interesting.

I would love to be out there today after yesterdays rain. I bet it is running fast.

Juniper does get pretty swift after a rain - in fact, it's the only place in Florida that I've accidentally turned my kayak upside down! I was trying to video the trip (big surprise there, huh?) and wasn't paying attention as I got lodged up next to a palm tree. Luckily, everything was in a dry bag - except that camera. That was an expensive paddling trip!

Oh Kevin, how awful. I know EXACTLY what KILLER palm you are talking of. Trailtalker had the untimely introduction to it one trip as well.
This was her aftermath.
I am ready to head up that run again.
