I can't tell from the pics how big it is, but it looks like some variety of orb weaver. Spiders are all poisonous, but it's not a widow nor a brown recluse. Looks like lunch time.
You cannot hide physical caches in National Parks, but many will accept development of EarthCaches. I developed one in Mammoth Cave National Park last year, and there are 4 or 5 others there, too.
That's a strange looking growth.
