We were just on the other side of the interstate from you. We hiked Little Big Econ State Forest on Friday. I was very surprised how the plant life near the river was still lush and pretty. The river must have kept it from freezing temperatures.

Seminole State forest

Another afternoon hike in Seminlole forest on sat, Feb 6th, had a nice long wlk over several trail sections at the south end. We went back to the river from the camp shelter at the start of the Lower Wekia Loop, just wanted to see the river from in the park, cool. We then took the FL trail up to Sand Road and then headed toward Blackwater creek. We deceided to see where the road to the left of Sand Road goes to, it is unmapped but clearly used by hunters. We went back this road for a mile, rea

Seminloe State Forest/ Sulphur Island Trail

My hiking buddy Pat and I did a hike this morning on the Sulfur Island Trail. It is a linear and loop trail. The first section is a 2.4 mile linear on the FT and then a 3.6 mile loop, blue blaze Sulfur Island Loop, then return on the FT to the North parking where we started. The parking is off of St Rd 44. As you can see on my photos some of the trail is on roads through the forest, but they are mostly shaded and not too long before you are back into the woods. We had hiked the Lower Wekiva Loop t… Continue

Hiking the FL state parks and forests with my sister/part two

On Wednesday we stayed closer to home and Went to Little-Big Econ State Forest. As I am sure you all have heard this is a beautiful hike along the river and is the best in the Orlando area. We saw so much wildlife here also, witch we didn't see much of in Withlacoochee besides birds and armadillos, it was so dry I believe that most of the wildwilfe has moved from the deep forest to be closer to the river there. We were lucky to be able to visit here at this time of the year as it is so green wit… Continue

Hiking the FL state parks and forests with my sister

Well folks here is my first blog on here so please be nice and forgive me for any mistakes. I never have learned to type.
My sister Chris just retired at the end of 2008 so I invited her to visit me in FL in the winter so we would do some hiking. She is from PA and the cold winters give her cabin fever after a while :).
On our first day,3-23-09, we went to Withlacoochee St Forest and hiked the Croom Tract on loops A and C. The weather was great for hiking, low 60's and overcast all day with just… Continue

Hi Curtis, I haven't been out hiking lately. I was out of commission for a while with a pretty bad hip flexor tear (sadly torn while doing something as mundane as dragging large plants around the yard!). The past couple of weeks have been spent with business and holiday travel. It's been crazy! I'm aching to get back out again soon... maybe check out Little Econ or the Disney Preserve. I have a feeling that hiking through Florida scrub is easier in winter... Veronica is welcome to contact me. I am more comfortable hiking with females or in a group while I am getting to know people here. Glad to hear that you are back out on the trails. Hope you are having fun!

Hello! I noticed your comment in the hiking with dogs group and (being new to the area) was wondering if you had found any hikes in the area that were good to take dogs on? Thanks!
