Last weekend on my way home from the Big Cypress Swamp tromp, my friend Aloha and I spent the day at Jonathan Dickenson SP. This is an old haunt of mine, raised my family and did much hiking there. In my capacity of Long Distance Chair I get many calls prior to the winter hiking season. This year I was speaking with Pete "Old Corpus" Hoffman. He asked the usual questions about permits, road walks and transport to Loop Road. I told him that due to road work, the Loop Road terminus was closed and until further notice the starting point would be at the Oasis Visitors Center. I had a great itinerary planned to head north, where I would get in some hiking and visiting with various friends. The itinerary went to hell in a hand basket pretty darn quick. So does that mean that the vacation was a wash and a waste of time. Absolutely not!!
