My daughter has a brindle terrier who could be mistaken for Chewy. His name is Taco. She rescued Taco while she was in flight training at Ft. Rucker AL. He was near death when she found him at a closed taco joint. He is now a robust 75 lbs. and is a…

The sand pine is my favorite. Very good composition. I will have to check out this trail.

Will do. Probably will be a couple of weeks before I get that way. I took a quick look at SRSP and was impressed.

Another of my favorites. I will be up that way at my river camp this weekend if all works out. We plan on hiking the Anderson Springs Trail for the Trailwalker hike. SRSP is a great place to stay and hike around at as well. Let me know when you head…

Thanks, Janie. My next project is to do the Big Oak Trail at Suwannee River State Park.

One of my favorite areas as I think you know. Guess you see why the I-Did-A-HIke was cancelled. Alton has rescheduled it for March but I am not sure it will be possible if we keep getting rain. The river is up but even if not flooding it can be dang…

The trail itself was not flooded; it was quite nice. The first creek has a plank bridge; we stopped at the second creek which is right before the big bluff with a picnic table on top which is where we wanted to have lunch! The trail to Big Shoals wa…

Bell Springs To Little Shoals

From White Spgs. go south on 41 for 2 miles then go left on CR 246 for 2.6 miles to Morrell Rd. Go to the end of Morrell and you will find the Bell Springs trailhead which will take you to the Florida Trail along the Suwannee. This is a fairly new section of the trail. I had done part of it as a work hike but this was my first chance to take my time and enjoy the scenery.

You have your choice to go left to Little Shoals or right to Big Shoals. I chose Little Shoals as this w

Max Patch Advenure

I have just posted some photos of my trip to Max Patch in October. As luck would have it we had two days of light snow when we first arrived. Spectacular! Max Patch was special but I still think the Roan Highlands are tops for scenery on the AT (before you take issue--I have made it only from Springer Mtn to Roanoke). Hope you enjoy the photos.

Help For The Doldrums

Here it is with 100 degree days, no cloud cover, down with a stress fracture on one of my feet, getting older but maybe not wiser, glad the a.c. is working, not caring about the recent JEA electric rate increase because it is so doggone hot, feeling sorry for my dogs because not even they care much about going out, dreaming about my trip to Max Patch in October, my annual trip to Marco Island in August, running out of books to read, but yet reflecting that soon it will be July 4 and we have the o… Continue

Florida Folk Festival

I am planning on attending the Folk Festival in White Springs this weekend. I am fortunate to have a friend who has a cabin on the Suwannee. Have set aside Sat. and Sun. for the festival and some hiking.

Does anyone (Janie perhaps?) have any info on the flood stage of the Suwannee River and the general condition of the trails?

GTM Preserve and S. Ponte Vedra Beach

Just got back from a week on the ocean in S. Ponte Vedra Beach. We looked out on the GTM Preserve on the one side and the wonderful ocean on the other. Not having been there for some time, I was struck by the substantial erosion which has taken place from south of PVB down through Vilano Beach. More than a few homes are ready to be claimed by the ocean if another big blow comes in.

The wonderful 4.2 mile stretch where there are no homes on the ocean is a sight to behold. The foresight of the St… Continue

Ty for the compliment. There really is so much more for people to see in Florida than most know. Try going to the Florida trail association website as well. Good references ( mostly by Sandra ) Hope to see you on the trail!
