My Florida Hikes

Sharing the best of Florida hiking

I noticed a bump just below my left knee a few days ago. Woke up this morning and it looks as if it erupted. Red ring (dime sized) around necrotic center. Had some joint pains, yesterday.

Went to doc today and it is a confirmed spider bite. I never felt the bite and the last time I was outdoors was last Saturday in JDSP.

Ten days of antibiotics and Silver Sulfadiazine applied locally BID.

Fun.

Bummer. I know your pain.Went camping in JDSP this past summer and got a nice little bite on my leg.No pain, but the bite stayed for a few days. Any idea what kind of spider? I've seen a few black widows and a brown recluse there.

Hey Dan... Much better, now. Looks like its healing and the redness is gone, so no news is good news, I guess.

Swelling's gone down, and the ring surrounding the area isn't bright red anymore, just pink. The cnter is starting to scab.

Sounds like an "Arizona Brown" spider or a "Brown Recluse". What does it look like as of today after the meds.

Sorry to hear about that, I had a bad one back in the mid 90's when I worked at a park up in SC. My symptoms were similar, it left a mark that's still there to this day. I didn't feel the bite when it happened either.
