Sharing the best of Florida hiking

(edit: fixed pictures and link)

Well I survived, ha. Had a blast and met plenty of folks including many AT thru hikers. One day we had bad weather : 30 degrees, 70mph wind (figure out the wind chill on your own), constant rain and almost all uphill rocky trail. It was certainly a "What the hell am I doing here?" moments for us all.

I'm ready for some flat land for a while before I head back up there, what a trip.

Not sure how to include html here. I'll add a few pics here though. Journal web page (off-site)

Thanks for that tip, I had to postpone my trip because I came down with a sinus infection, I felt it coming on all week but I was in denial about it, it finally caught up with me Friday afternoon. I hope to make it up in 2-3 weeks. I was very disappointed, but right now I can barely walk around Publix let alone a trail.

Brickman, if you are up to it, you can continue along the AT past Charlies Bunion just a short ways (I'd guess less than a mile) and find another spur trail heading up a fair incline of loose rock. I'm pretty sure this is "Sawteeth" and the views are similar to Bunion with far less traffic so you can sit there uninterrupted, if desired. This is where I got the shot of my feet hanging off up there.

For scenic shots I assume you mean great overviews of the area. Mt. LeConte has to be one of the best as you have plenty of routes to choose to get there and many views along the way in addition to being up there. Be sure to check out the sunset view and sunrise view locations if you go, just ask a lodge employee if you need help finding it. For plant varieties and similar the Porters Creek trail (it's on the map I posted on the journal page) is one of the best from my reading and I planned on taking this route and then following the manway to the AT however we decided against the added difficulty and in retrospect was a good idea. I may hike it still, just a different time of year. Brushy Mountain (also on the map) has a real nice panoramic view and is not visited much so makes it nice.

Thanks for posting these, I'm headed up there on Sunday and I plan to hike out to Charlies Bunion and back on Monday morning. This was a timely preview for me.

I'm heading to the Smokies in August. Any suggestions on where to go for some great scenic shots?

Cool. Glad you had fun. I always enjoy the AT when I get a chance to go. Got some pics to share?
